Melda Salhab is a Senior TPM in Uber’s AI organization, based in Amsterdam, where she leads initiatives spanning responsible AI, ML platform open source, and AI reliability and developer experience. Her work focuses on scaling trustworthy AI systems in practice, ensuring that advances in machine learning translate into safe, reliable, and high-impact products across a global platform.

Her background spans both technical and strategic roles across Uber AI, Uber’s Maps and EMEA Operational teams, where she worked on large-scale data systems and product operations. Prior to Uber, Melda was a consultant with organizations including the World Bank and the United Nations Development Program, and a management consultant at Monitor Deloitte, advising on data-driven decision-making across the public sector.

Melda holds a PhD in Spatial Data Science from University College London (UCL). Her research focused on using satellite data to address critical information gaps in disaster risk modeling and economic development, with work published in leading journals including Nature Communications. She has also co-authored work on scaling responsible AI in production environments at Uber.

She regularly speaks on topics spanning AI / ML systems, bias, and real-world deployment, bringing a perspective grounded in both technical depth and hands-on experience, focused on one of the defining challenges of the AI era: how to scale AI systems responsibly and effectively.
